About This Item

Chatto & Windus, London / Government of Southern Rhodesia / University Press, Glasgow, 1945. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. 0x0x0. 13 books (complete). Series of early colonial books of Rhodesian history. Of varying conditions. All are gilded along the top trims. One: An aging, much owned, carelessly stored copy. The red boards are much marked, stained, worn all about from storage and shelving. They are steady and sound. The Southern Rhodesian coat of arms is worn and scuffed. The early pages are peppered with previous owner signatures and annotations. The papertrims are foxed. The early and later pages are worn, foxed, discoloured. Whilst the rest of the contents are flecked, flushed with foxing here and there, the pages are generally clean, clear, comfortable, companionable. Two: A smart copy. The red boards have light shelving wear about the edges. The gilt arms are bright. Top paper trims are gilded. The contents are very neat, clean, clear, confident, pleasinh. Three: A tidy copy. The boards are scuffed, worn about the edges and corners, a little dulled. The contents are most pleasing. Healthy, neat, fresh, clean and clear. Four (pub 1946): The boards are handsome, hale. The papertrims have insect or storage damage. The contents are very pleasing. Fresh-faced, unblemished, secure, very clean and clear. Five (pub: 1946): The serene boards have light shelving wear, very shallow scuffing. The contents are smart and clean and confident. Six (pub 1946): A pleasing copy. The contents have unobtrusive corner wear to a very few pages. The pages are very clean, generous, serene. Seven (Central African Archives, pub 1949, edited by Constance E Fripp, V W Hiller). Northern Rhodesian Coat of Arms. The boards are rubbed, scuffed, worn about the edges and corners from shelving and stacking. The spine is faded. The boards are sound and sure. The contents are comfortable, clean and clear, companionable. Eight (I Schapera (ed), pub 1951): The boards are a little worn from shelving, along the edges and corners. The contents are most pleasing and generous. Nine (pub: 1952). An amiable copy. The boards have some shelving wear, knocks, scuffing. They are healthy and sturdy. The contents are most pleasing. They are very clean, clear, unblemished. Ten (pub. 1953): Good, sound condition. Only shallow corner knocks, fading about the spine from shelving. The contents are in excellent order. Eleven (pub: 1954): Rhodesian Federation Coat of Arms. Corner knocks and very light shelving wear about the edges. Contents are fresh, very clean and clear, generous. Twelve (pub 1956): Corner knocks from shelving. Light scuffing and rubbing. The contents are healthy and sure, clean and clear and gratifying. Thirteen (pub. 1956): Light shelving wear to the edges and corners, some scuffing, scratching. They are secure and steady.
