Dark green cloth with embossed design on front cover (originally stamped in white now mostly rubbed off) and a paste-on illustration of a smiling woman. Boards show general wear with a little fraying. Hinges good. Interior is unmarked. Pages have a bit of scattered small spots of soiling, otherwise generally clean. 304 pages. Scarce. No stated date of publication, but issued between 1901 and 1906 (the years during which the publisher M. A. Donohue & Company was at the address ''407-429 Dearborn Street,'' at it is given on the title page). A romance set in England, in the woods of Warden Forest and in London, with scenes in Earl's Court. The protagonist is a girl of fifteen who falls for a woodsman. The author, Charles Garvice (1850-1920), was a prolific British writer of romance novels who also wrote under the pseudonym Caroline Hart.
