About This Item
1935. Signed by Author. A one-page TLS addressed to Miss Eileen Cond dated April 3rd 1935 from Miramar FRINTON April 3rd 1935. Dear Miss Cond, Many thanks for your exceedingly nice letter, and as you say you like receiving letters as well as writing them (so do I!), I am sending you a reply, although I should probably have done this in any case. I have a "fan mail," but it is not enormous like Ivor Novello's, and I am not numb to compliments. Also, I like to respond to happy and friendly impulses, an d to show that they have nor drifted away into thin air. I am glad you liked my last novel. It's had some very good notices, and a letter came yesterday from another reader who "sat up half the night with it," but I have also seen one bad notice, and I am so anxious about my work that when I get a bad notice I always feel sure the critic must be right! I have not a very high opinion of my books, personally, but I* am grateful that I can entertain some people - in return for what I receive from them and the world in general- and I think I have been very lucky. Of course I'll sign a copy of "Mountain Mystery," if you send it to me. The novel to follow this will come out in July ("Holiday Express"), and if you read it you will find that this is another type of still. It is a mystery story narrated by a small boy of about thirteen- bad spelling and all! This story, I admit, I do rather like (you see, I can be conceited, despite my apparent modesty), but the next one, which I am just finishing, but the next one, which I am just finishing - a new "Ben" story to be published in September- I am frankly scared about. I hope it is not too mad! Well, I'l learn later. Once more, thank you for writing. Yours sincerely, J Jefferson Farjeon. Photographs/scans available upon request.
