First edition from 1891 in blue publisher's cloth with black stamped pattern to straight grain morocco pattern cloth. Gilt titles to spine. A little rubbed and worn to extremities, Volume III having a patch of pale staining to front board. Pages clean, and overall bright and clean. ASSOCIATION COPY: Bears the bookplate of William Irving Winter to front endpaper pastedown. William Irving Winter was an Australian landowner and inhabitant of Dhurringile Mansion, northern Victoria, Australia. The mansion is considered "one of Victoria's grandest homesteads", and is currently used by the Government of Victoria as a training centre. George Meredith was born in Portsmouth, United Kingdom, and was greatly revered in his day. An unusual association copy.
