About This Item
New York: Doubleday Books for Young Readers, 1989. First edition. Stated. Presumed first printing. Hardcover. Very good. No dust jacket as issued. Signed by author. Previous owner's bookplate inside front cover.. Collier, Roberta. 47, [1] p. Illustrations (color). A collection of short stories with Jewish themes, adapted by the popular ventriloquist, puppeteer, and children's TV personality. This is the ninth in the series of "one-minute" stories, and includes tales of Jewish interest based on liter ary and historical tradition as well as the Bible and Talmud. The book is be ing marketed as a way for busy Jewish parents to "free up time" while simul taneously sharing their rich cultural heritage with their children. It is appro priately arranged for this purpose with several brightly colored illustrations on each double-page spread; each story occupies no more than two facing pages, making it easier to read quickly. Yes, it is possible to read each of these stories aloud in one minute if one reads quickly and with little attention to the niceties that make the experience an enjoyable one for listeners. Shari Lewis was an extraordinary entertainer with a diverse career that was regrettably cut short by her early death from disease. Autographed items, especially personally inscribed items, are increasingly scarce and prized by collectors specializing in show business, ventriloguists, puppeteers, storytellers, television personalities, and notable jews.
