About This Item

London: W. Strahan, J. and F. Rivington, et al, 1775. Hardcover. Very Good. The seventh Edition, revised and corrected by Sir John Pringle himself before his death in 1782. 8vo, xxiv + pp345 plus Appendix pp120(cxx) , 28 pages of index and Errata page. Hard cover issued without dust jacket. Contemporary calf, skillfully re-backed with titles stamped in gilt on a morocco spine label in very good condition with a little wear to boards. Inside Ex British Medical Association Library copy with a small ink stamp on the title page, pages slightly toned with some light scattered damp staining with Small intrepid worm holes in the last 50 pages and the rear paste down otherwise pages in remarkably good condition with staining not affecting the text at all. An early scientific account of epidemiology and the prevention of cross infection, Sir John Pringle felt that fevers, dysentery, and jail fever were the three most prevalent and fatal diseases affecting armies and his recommendations for prevention helped to control epidemics. An excellent copy of an early edition of this very important work.
