The first edition 1991 of this account of the Malaspina Expedition from 1789 to 1794. A study by Maria Dolores Higueras written in Spanish and English who created this iconographic album to give the reader a vivid image and experience of the expedition. Thoroughly illustrated. The Malaspina Expedition was a maritime exploration that lasted five years and was led by Alessandro Malaspina and Jose de Bustamante y Guerra. They sailed from Spain to Alaska and across the Pacific on the Atrevida and the Descubierta.  From the library of Eric Kenneth Prentice Back. Kenn Back was a British meteorologist with the British Antarctic survey for many years.  He spent eight winters in the Antarctic and is a descendent of Captain George Back. In addition, he served as base commander at Halley, Faraday and Rothera stations.  His library collection was built over decades and highlights his love of polar exploration.Illustrated throughout.With pictorial slipcase. In the publisher's original blue cloth binding, with titles stamped in gilt to spine and decorative illustration in gilt to front board. Externally lovely. Kenn Back library bookplate to recto front free endpaper. Pictorial endpapers. Illustrated slipcase in excellent condition. Internally, firmly bound. Minor spotting to first and last few leaves, otherwise pages are bright and clean. Near Fine
