Second book title continues: "with an Appendix relating to the Ancient Family of the Monroes, of Fowlis." The appendix begins on p. 149. Printed in Leeds, West Yorkshire, but pertains to the Battle of Prestonpans (modern spelling), East Lothian, Scotland, the first major battle of the Jacobite rising of 1745. Second book written by Philip Doddridge to David Gardiner, a cornet in Sir John Cope's regiment of Dragoons and the son of Col. Gardiner who was killed at Prestonpans.
