London: Richard Bentley, 1838. First edition,. 2 volumes. Frontispiece to each volume, folding map (with short marginal tear without loss), and 4 engraved plates (as called for). 8vo (8 3/4 x 5 1/2 inches), pages: xii:403 & vi:441. Contemporary half purple calf, marbled boards, burgundy lettering and numbering pieces. Spines now faded to a patchy brown; some scuffing to sides and corners but very sound and with strong joints. Foxing to prelims otherwise internally very clean. Old signature on upper titles. Bound without half-titles.
