London: The Folio Society, 2012. Hardcover. Fine. London, The Folio Society, 2012 (first thus). Large octavo, five volumes, xviii, 370; x, 429; x, 384; xii, 354; and x, 421 pages plus a total of 108 full-page colour plates. Quarter cloth and colour-pictorial papered boards; a fine set in the fine gilt-decorated slipcase. 'Pliny the Elder (Gaius Plinius Secundus) completed the thirty-seven books of the "Naturalis Historia" in AD 77. The translation by H. Rackham, continued after his death by W.H.S. Jones and D.E. Eichholz, was first published by Harvard University Press in the Loeb Classical Library series, in ten volumes, between the years 1938 and 1962. For this Folio Society edition, the text of the Preface and Books 1-2 follow the revised edition of Loeb volume I, published in 1949, and that of Books 3-7 the first edition of Loeb volume II, published in 1942' (verso of the title pages).
