About This Item
Cape Town: C. Struik, 1964. Reprint of the ethnographic classic, number 167 of 750 printed; the original, posthumously published in 1905, was long considered the definitive work on the subject. Stow emigrated to South Africa as a young man in 1843 and worked in several fields, but his great interest was geology. Exploring the lands of the Bushmen, he recorded much of the rock art in their caves & shelters, and developed the theory, expressed here, that the Bushmen were the ancient inhabitants of the land and the Hottentot & Bantu peoples relative newcomers. Hardcover in jacket, as pictured. Light wear to book, endsheets badly tanned; jacket torn & creased with some chipping, small holes. Text clean; [2], xvi, 618 pages; index, genealogical tables, folding map, 22 b/w & color plates, complete, though not all in the called-for location. A surcharge for expedited or international shipping of this oversize book may be required; please inquire for an accurate quote. . Reprint. Hard Cover. Very Good/Good. Large Octavo.
