About This Item

Congress Proceedings. In English. Three volumes, soft cover, 24 cm, 2060 pp., ill. The 15th Congress of the International Society for Folk Narrative Research (ISFNR) took place in Athens, 21-27 June, 2009. It involved academic papers with fruitful discussion and events relating to the topic of the Congress, such as book exhibitions, exhibitions of paintings and of themes relating to folklore and folk life and musical and dance events and performances. The International Society for Folk Narrative Research (ISFNR) is an international scholarly society, established in 1959 by prominent scholars, including Georgios Megas. Its aim is to promote academic research in the field of folk narratives worldwide. The research interests of its members cover a great range within the humanities and the social sciences. This includes folklore, anthropology, cultural studies, comparative literature, linguistics, history, museology and ethnography, all of which are considered in terms of their relation to narratology. The ISFNR holds its congresses in various parts of the world every four years and there is always considerable participation at an international level. The 15th Congress held in Athens coincided with the celebration of the fifty years since the establishment of the ISFNR.
