Garrett & Co, 1854. Hardcover. Acceptable. Brown cloth boards with gilt titling and decoration to spine and elaborate decoration in blind with anchor at center to front and back panels. Cloth rubbed with some loss to gilt at spine, decorative flourishes obscured at front and back. Soiling, edge wear, fraying to spine foot and bottom fore edge corners. Binding cracked to the bottom 2in. at p. 96 & 97 with the bottom thread split; the other threads are still sturdy. Missing ffep. With illustrated half title and five additional plates. Damp staining to top margin off and on through first half of the book. Early bookseller's sticker at front pastedown, partially removed. Scarring from sticker removal at flyleaf. Prior owner's name scribbled to rear free end paper with purple colored pencil. Small numerical notation penned to recto of rfep. Lightly foxed and toned throughout, text else unmarked.
