Frederick Muller, London, 1979. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good Condition/Very Good. Illustrator: Illustrated. Appendix: monster of Scotland and acknowledgements. The text is illustrated with contemporary black-and-white illustrations and black-and-white photographs. Green coloured boards with gilt coloured titles to the backstrip. Colour illustrated dustwrapper with white coloured titles to the front panel and blue and white coloured titles to the backstrip. A biography of one of the most famous and murderous barbers of all times, the 19th-century English Barber Sweeney Todd. The author sets out to find out if there was a Sweeney Todd in real life, or, was he just a brilliant figment of a writer's imagination? And, if he / she (as one theory suggests) was real, who was he / she, and the attendant success of Sweeney Todd in the entertainment field. A little softening of the top backstrip edge and rubbing to the lower edge. The book edges are slightly rubbed and there is age toning of the text book edges and pages. Gift inscription to the free front end page; and there is offset tanning to the end pages. Rubbing to the book edges and panels and the backstrip is very slightly faded.
