About This Item

Cambridge: Polity Press, 1986. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Dust Jacket Included. Cambridge, Polity Press, 1986 (first edition). Octavo, xvi, 864 pages with 15 maps and numerous illustrations. Papered boards slightly bumped and rubbed; an excellent copy with the dustwrapper lightly scuffed and creased, with a tiny closed tear to one corner. 'A distinctive feature of the book is the way in which the author draws on diaries and memoirs to reconstruct images of how the war was experienced, both by soldiers who were fighting at the front and by civilians who were remote from actual combat' (dustwrapper blurb).
