About This Item

New York: Grosset & Dunlap, 1951 [orig. published 1945] Third edition. Signed by twelve players featured in the book, on front free endpaper: Pee Wee Reese, Warren Spahn, Ted Williams, Ralph Kiner, Enos Slaughter, Stan Musial, Mickey Mantle, Bob Feller, Phil Rizzuto, Joe DiMaggio, and Tom Henrich (all Hall of Famers except for Henrich). Publisher's buckram, with front board and spine printed in black; In its original pictorial dust jacket, with drawing of a play at the plate on front panel, lettered in red and black, and yellow spine. Very good or better book, with light rubbing to edges, spine ends, and corners, very light toning to spine, and front hinge sturdy but with a tiny bit of separation; small closed tear to bottom edge of front panel, and small closed tear to top right corner of rear panel, else fine unclipped dust jacket. With JSA authentication sticker to verso of front free endpaper. Overall, a bright and beautiful multi-signed copy. In this book, forty-seven all-time baseball players recount, in their own voices, their greatest days in baseball. In Dizzy Dean's chapter, the pitcher poignantly says, "Hell, there ain't no use in me tryin' to talk about a special day, 'cause every time I had the ball in my hand, and that suit on, it was my greatest day." This copy is signed by twelve of the forty-seven greats, including 3x AL MVP Mickey Mantle, 9x World Series champion Joe DiMaggio, 19x All-Star Ted Williams, and 10x All-Star Pee Wee Reese. Some of the greatest achievements in baseball have been attained by the twelve players who signed the book - to name a few, Williams is the last player to bat .400 for a season (.406 in 1941), DiMaggio holds the record for most consecutive games with a hit (56 games), and Musial made an astounding 24 All-Star game appearances (just one shy of the record leader, Hank Aaron). . Signed. Near Fine/Dust Jacket Included.
