About This Item
The Bodley Head, Bow Street, London 1979 Hardcover with dust jacket Ours is an ex-library copy in transparent protective covering, with stamps, stickers, and barcode. GOOD book in GOOD price-clipped dust jacket This book is a re-issue of the early part of Charles Chaplin's 'My Autobiography', first published in 1964. The child of music-hall artists, Chaplin grew up in the shabby Bohemian atmosphere of the Kennington Road and its drab side-streets. He made his first stage appearance, aged 8, as a clog dancer (a flop). He was a member of the Karno company and went to America with them. Chaplin was persuaded by Mack Sennett to join his Keystone Studios where Chaplin's Tramp was born. This book illustrated with 39 photographs, many from Chaplin's own collection.
