First published in 1872. Fanny was 19 when her wagon party of emigrants was attacked by a large force of Sioux warriors. Most of them were killed but her husband escaped and spent five months trying to rescue her. This is her story about her captivity and also a depiction of the conflicting images of Native Americans in the 19th century: savage aggressors or victims of prejudice and oppression.
