About This Item

Dover Publications, 1969. Paperback. extremely poor/none. This is oversize soft cover paperback measuring 5.5 x 8 approximately 7/8 of 1 inch thick. It is very well, thumbed and has seen quite a bit of use the cover scratches. there is degradation and loss of color around the glued spine area and in various places the corners are rolled from use. Interiorly there are quite a bit of corners of pages that have been folded back to preserve places.Liberal use of metal paperclips. a few dirt spots here or there. A few places that are highlighted too, in the first few pages. The edges of the book have quite a bit of use wear, and are not clean. This is a very well read book it is still readable and has life in it. sounds bad, however it's still a clean and the inside of the content has not changed since first published in 1885 however a new introduction has been written by Philip S Foner for this edition. as a bookmark inside there is a stub of an Amtrak ticket from Philadelphia to Washington DC when I was only surprisingly $38. In August of 98.Who knows there may be a certain cachet and carrying a copy around like this.

Synopsis

Ex-slave Frederick Douglass's second autobiography-written after ten years of reflection following his legal emancipation in 1846 and his break with his mentor William Lloyd Garrison-catapulted Douglass into the international spotlight as the foremost spokesman for American blacks, both freed and slave. Written during his celebrated career as a speaker and newspaper editor, My Bondage and My Freedom reveals the author of the Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass (1845) grown more mature, forceful, analytical, and complex with a deepened commitment to the fight for equal rights and liberties. Edited with an Introduction and Notes by John David Smith"
