About This Item

New York: Harcourt Brace, 1940. First Edition (?). Hardcover. Good/very good. Octavo, 288pp. Please read carefully: A tight, sound copy, but with some pasted-in news and magazine clippings to the first few leaves--see images. Looking carefully at the copyright page with a flashlight, there does not seem to be any printing statement, and the dust jacket price reads $2.00, consistent with the first printing. Though unusual for Harcourt Brace at this time, it seems there are no examples of the first printing with the words "first edition." Dust jacket faded on the spine and with a few nicks, but otherwise rather nice. A good copy in a very good dust jacket. SIGNED by Struther on the front free endpaper, which has a news clipping with a brief obituary pasted right below the signature. A signed first edition with notable defects, and without the publisher's slicpase; priced accordingly.

About Cleveland Book Company

We are proud members of the ABAA.

As a small, independent bookseller in Cleveland, Ohio, I deal in general used, rare, and antiquarian books, autographs, manuscripts, pamphlets, and personal and family papers in all subjects. My family has been in the antiquarian book business since 1971. Are you moving, downsizing, or doing some spring cleaning? Did you inherit or otherwise come into some old books? Or, maybe you've collected modern novels from the last thirty or fifty years. No matter what kinds of books you have, we'd love to take a look at them! We travel throughout Ohio, western Pennsylvania and New York, southern Michigan, and eastern Indiana, and will travel farther in some cases to look at whole libraries or even just a few particularly interesting books. Give us a call at (216) 352-3940 and we can talk more about the kinds of books you have.
