Angus & Robertson, Sydney – London – Melbourne – Wellington, 1943. First Edition. Hardcover (Illustrated Boards). Fair Condition/No Dust Jacket. Illustrator: May Gibbs. Colour illustrated frontispiece, by May Gibbs, who has also drawn all black-and-white illustrations within the text – full page, half page and quarter page. Yellow coloured boards with brown illustration with dark brown coloured titles to the front panel and the backstrip. A delightful children's story from the middle part of the 20th century from the mother of the Gum Nut Babies – May Gibbs. Set in the world of the Gumnut Babies with the addition of a delightful black scotch terrier. Softening some Chipping to the back strip edges with bumping and rubbing of the book corners. There is bumping along the front edge of the front panel and the panels show rubbing and grubby marks. A previous cherub who owned the book has scribbled on the top edge of the front panel in a blue coloured pencil. A gift card has been attached to the free front end page, dated Xmas 1943. The selfsame cherub who use the blue coloured ink on the front panel has also taken to the free front end page. The front hinge has cracked and the underlying webbing is visible; with a previous owner attempting to of the hinge safely with tape, which, has left the inevitable stains. They similarly did the same to the rear panel and the tape is still in situ. Previous owners name to the top right hand corner of the free front end page with tanning and marking of the text block edges and age toning of the pages. Handling marks and stains to the title page along with a very faint pink discolouration. Second Edition. Size: 4to 9¾" - 12" tall. (4), 122, (2). Pages.. Please refer to accompanying picture (s).
