About This Item
First edition. Original wraps. Removed from a collection of pamphlets, with stitch markings visible at margins near spine along front and rear covers. Spine perished with binding cloth to replace it. Some rubbing and area of paper loss to front cover. Internally clean and bright.
A significant document in the history of women's suffrage in the United States, this pamphlet records the protest held when it was apparent that the Edmunds-Tucker Act of 1887, aimed at restricting LDS religious practices, would also withdraw the right of suffrage for Utah women, which had been granted while still a territory in 1870. Utah women had been the first women to cast ballots in the United States after the start of the suffrage movement, the result of the work of the first wave of Mormon feminism. Flake 5533.
