The first edition. Illustrated with a monochrome frontispiece and numerous full colour comic strip illustrations by Alfred Bestall. In the publisher's original paper covers.The 1943 Rupert Annual published by 'The Daily Express'. Rupert Bear is an adored children's comic strip character created by Mary Tourtel who first featured in the 'Daily Express' newspapers in 1920 as a way to drive sales. The series was taken over by Alfred Bestall in 1935 and since 1936, an annual has been published every year, depicting the stories and adventures of Rupert and his friends. This volume is the annual for the year 1943, with stories such as 'Rupert and the Piper' and 'Rupert's Birthday'.Undated, dated by copies held institutionally. In the publisher's original paper covers. Externally smart with light spotting, rubbing to the joints and extremities with joints starting and a slight lean. Rear hinge failed. Internally generally firmly bound with strain in places and frontispiece starting. Pages bright with spotting to the front with the odd spot throughout. 'This Belongs To' box left empty. Good
