Turnbull attended Cambridge University where he gained his first degree. He currently holds an MA in Theology, MA in Military History and a Ph.D. from the University of Leeds where he is a lecturer in Far Eastern Religions. He was on the editorial board of the short-lived Medieval History Magazine (2003-2005), which was published in association with the Royal Armouries. He was a consultant for the widely successful PC game Shogun: Total War and also its well-received sequel Total War: Shogun 2, both products of Creative Assembly. Wayne Reynolds is a British artist whose work has appeared in comics and role-playing games. Wayne Reynolds attended art college in Dewsbury and Middlesbrough. The Mongol military tactics and organization enabled the Mongol Empire to conquer nearly all of continental Asia, the Middle East and parts of eastern Europe. The original foundation of that system was an extension of the nomadic lifestyle of the Mongols. Other elements were invented by Genghis Khan, his generals, and his successors. Technologies useful to attack fortifications were adapted from other cultures, and foreign technical experts integrated into the command structures. In many cases, they won against significantly larger opposing armies. Above all units, there existed an elite force called Kheshig. They functioned as imperial guard of the Mongol Empire as well as a training ground for potential young officers, the great Subutai having started his career there.

Synopsis

Stephen Turnbull is best known for his numerous books on samurai and Japanese military history, for which he is the recognised expert outside Japan. More recently he has expanded his interests into China, Korea and Southeast Asia, particularly in relation to their military interaction with Japan. He has also published several books on the subject of warfare in medieval and early modern Europe, where he has developed a strong interest in eastern European armies such as the Hussites and Muscovy.
