Original parchment-covered binding is moderately browned and shelfworn, with a scuffs and several spots of discoloration. Original paper spine label is cracked but intact. Protected in custom-fitted archival mylar. Contains numerous tipped-in and in-text illustrations. Number 53 of 100 copies printed for subscribers. This copy contains an original color drawing by Elihu Vedder on the front endpaper, which is signed by the artist as a part of the drawing. The drawing itself is a dedication to Edward E. Ayer and contains a caricature of a man with a long white mustache and glasses; the glasses are incorporated into the word "book." Pages edges are uncut. The text is clean and unmarked.
