Bound in the original maroon boards, stamped in white, red and black. Translated from the publisher's blurb: "Cardinal József Mindszenty (March 29, 1892 - May 6, 1975). His name became world-famous as a symbol of the fight against communism. From the episcopal see of Veszprém, he was elected the country's first archbishop in 1945. His choice was based on his anti-fascist past, his more than 25 years of pastoral activity and his excellent organizational talent. In 1948 he was arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment in a political trial by the Hungarian government. The revolution of 1956 liberated him, but after only a few days he asked for asylum in the American embassy and lived there until 1971. With a heavy heart, he left his voluntarily chosen exile at an advanced age and moved to Vienna. In 1974, Pope Paul VI removed Mindszenty from office. The conflict between the pope and the archbishop was rooted in the Holy See's plan to sacrifice Mindszenty in favor of its Ostpolitik. Margit Balogh conducted research for several years in archives in Hungary, Austria, Russia, Italy and the United States. In her book, the author offers a multifaceted picture at the cutting edge of research on Cardinal Mindszenty." . First Hungarian edition. Oversize Hardcover (heavy).
