Respined with original spine attached. Gilding worn off spine. Repaired corners. Some foxing to plates and endpapers. Previous owner's signature whited out on first title page. Small chip on upper right corner of large folding plate. Damp stain on lower part of front endpapers. An important American military study of the armies of the major powers in Europe, including Russia, Prussia, Austria, France, and Britain. The work covers all aspects of the military organizations of these countries, presumably with the intention of learning ways to improve the forces at home.
