About This Item

*Merce Cunningham - This book is a celebration, in words and particularly in photographs, of Merce Cunningham and the central place he occupies in the world of dance and in the avant-garde of the other arts in our era....... Over-sized hard cover book in very good condition. Dark gray boards with black cloth wrapped spine and silver titling all in very good condition. Orange endpapers are good but the front paper has a gift inscription handwritten to a prior owner. Pages are printed on a heavy grade matte finish paper and are in very good condition, clean, unmarked. Dust jacket is good as it shows some surface scuffing and minor wear at edges, inside fold has been clipped and there is a small tear on bottom back cover. Overall a very nice copy......-Amazing pictorial look biographically - major force in his field - changing -shaping dance forever. - Great introspective photographs...During his prolific 60-year career, choreographer Merce Cunningham (1919–2009) revolutionized dance by challenging every aspect of the form. THe most radical was his idea that all the elements of a dance—movement, music, costumes, decor—could be created independently of one another, coming together only during the "common time" of a performance. Along with his life partner, composer John Cage (1912–1992), Cunningham explored this freeing notion by initiating cross-disciplinary collaborations with dozens of artists.... If you happen to be in Los Angeles LACMA has a show thru march 2019 - the centennial of Merce Cunningham is coming.. Mercier Philip "Merce" Cunningham was an American dancer and choreographer who was at the forefront of American modern dance for more than 50 years..
