" A Memory of Solferino is a book of the Swiss humanitarian Henry Dunant published in 1862. It proved decisive in the founding of the International Committee of the Red Cross.- Henri Dunant (1828 - 1910) was a Swiss businessman who happened to witness the horrors of the 1859 Battle of Solferino between France, Sardinia, and Austria. Three years later he published Un Souvenir de Solferino at his own expense and presented it to leading figures in Europe. The next year, due to his efforts, the Red Cross was founded."- Minor browning of end pages only-no spotting-pages a clean, tight and crisp- the only marking is a name on the end page- blue cloth hard cover-some wear and tear around fragile DJ-Two illustrations including frontispiece with one further plate- Unclipped dust jacket remains in good condition with several chips/tears mostly at edges- This 1st edition was published in 1947 is in very good condition.
