About This Item
LAID IN is the rare separate pamphlet Danville, Virginia, published by the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, Aug. 1963, with photographs and layout by Lyons.
Not only a collection of Lyon's important visual work in the South during the 1960s, the book is his recollections of evens as well as reprints of documentary material. In 1963, Lyon provided the photographs and the layout to the SNCC pamphlet, Danville, Virginia, an event discussed and shown here on pp.62-69. Lyon's images of that event and others were first included in The Movement: Documentary of a Struggle for Equality (Simon & Schuster, New York, 1964). No doubt this book will soon be banned in Florida.
