New York: The Commonwealth Fund, 1947. First Edition. Half-Leather. Near Fine/No Jacket. Signed by Author. Hardcover, no DJ; Near Fine to Fine condition. Looks like First (only?) Edition & 1st printing; c. 1947, same year on title page & no note of further printings. SIGNED in fountain pen at top of 2nd blank page by member Richard H. Shryock (a medical historian)- this appears to be his personal copy. Binding of red marbled boards w/ leather spine (w/ raised ribs) & corners shows only a trace of rubbing- tight, clean & square. Gold spine decoration & lettering (w/ title & Shryock"") crisp & intact. Glossy red marbled endpapers show little to no wear. Text is tight, clean & unmarked w/ v. light toning. No hinge splits, not ex library. An extremely handsome, well preserved copy.
