About This Item
New York: Dodd, Mead & Company, n.y.. Hardcover. Illustrations by Paul Lantz. Small 4to. Green cloth. x, 50. Six color illustrations and numerous grey-scale illustrations. Very good. A few lightly soiled pages, no doubt from less-than-sterile juvenile grimy mitts. A tight and nice much later printing (24th) of this 1941 children's tale, Edmonds' sixth book -- a 1942 Newbery Award winner of historical fiction by the noted novelist (1903-98) best remembered for the 1936 bestseller "Drums Along the Mohawk." Tipped at upper right of front flyleaf is a blank 5" X 3" card signed boldly in full by Edmonds in black ballpoint later in life. Lantz's six 2-page color spreads are magnificent. Undated, but possibly of 1960s vintage.
