[6], 7-532 pp. Green cloth with a gold decoration, decorations in black, and gold lettering on the front board, gold lettering and black decorations on the spine. Brown coated endpapers and pastedowns. Illustrated with a frontispiece, an engraved title page, numerous in-text wood engravings, and with 25 plates, one of which is a map. Completing the title page: "Comprising a description of this wonderful country, its immense mineral wealth, its magnificent mountain scenery, the ruins of ancient towns and cities found therein, with a complete history of the Apache Tribe, and a description of the author's guide, Cochise, the Great Apache War Chief. The whole interspersed with strange events and adventures". Bradford 1104. Howes C-838. Graff 898. Rader 950. A contemporary account of a pioneer's travels around Arizona and New Mexico. Cozzens' work portrays the hostilities between the Native residents of the Southwest and the white settlers moving there. Several historical buildings are also depicted in Cozzens' narrative. Recently and nicely rebacked with the original spine laid down, the hinges professionally reinforced with binder's tape. An 1874 inscription on the first blank leaf.
