Original price of $5.95 is still present on the front flap. DJ is quite worn and spotted along with numerous tears and large chips missing. Red cloth boards underneath show minor edge toning along with corner bumps/wear. Lower right corner on front board is the worst. Interior binding is good and text pages are tight. No signatures or bookplates present, no remainder marks. Only handwriting found in the book is on the front end page where "ooo" is written in pen along the top edge.

There is a bookplate attached to the front endpaper. This is the first complete account in English of the violence-marked career of the audacious Frenchman who tried to carve an empire out of the Bad Lands of Dakota Territory in the 1880's. Young, aristocratic, brilliant, and idealistic, de Mores was a seigneur in the grand style. In his ambitious, imaginative mind, money-making and high adventure went together, and the Old West afforded a matchless opportunity to apply all his resources.
