The aims of the studies included 'to obtain an estimated date for the initial occupation or utilization of the Kalahuipua'a area which could be correlated and compared with the initial settlement dates for 'Anaeho'omalu and other area in the West Hawai'i region.' The investigations were financially supported by Mauna Loa Land, Inc. of Honolulu and worked closely with the Bishop Museum staff throught the project.
