Double-page pop-up of Kublai Khan in his palanquin led by elephants and a tiger, flanked by his hunting party. Complete with white silk reins. Bound in color-printed pictorial card covers, pages stapled. Slightly bumped at corners; very good. § A lovely pop-up book by Czech artist Vojt ch Kuba ta, with Artia copyright statement beneath imprint undated. No. 311 in the Panascopic series. “Given Eastern Bloc isolation, the international popularity of Kuba ta’s books is remarkable. Bancroft, owned by a Czech refugee from the Nazis, was the first Western publisher to market Kuba ta’s books, which were eventually translated into thirty-seven languages”.
