About This Item
London: Sampson, Low, Marston, Searle and Rivington, 1878. 2 lithographed maps, each 87.5 x 71 cm, printed in colours, each dissected into 28 panels and laid on linen, minor wear; published in Henry Morton Stanleys Through the Dark Content, but here dissected at an early date to create a robust folding map. A product of Welsh-American explorer H.M. Stanleys first trans-Africa expedition, sponsored by the New York Herald and the Daily Telegraph, our map contains a wealth of new information about central Africa, particularly the course of the River Congo.
