"A Man's Value to Society" - Studies in Self-Culture and Character by Newell Dwight Hillis. Published in 1910 by Fleming H. Revell Company. Nicely bound in maroon cloth with a decorative piece at the center of the front cover, gilt top page edges, and gilt lettering on the front cover and spine. Contents include Conscience and Character, The Use of Books and Reading, The Enthusiasm of Friendship, Aspirations and Ideals, The Mind and the Duty of Right Thinking, The Imagination as the Architect of Manhood...please see the photos for the complete list.
Condition:
The back cover has a series of tiny "bubbles" beneath the cloth along the right-hand and bottom edges. The spine has a thin, 2" vertical pen/pencil(?) line at the bottom half. Sharp cover corners. Bright gilt top page edges. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. Both covers are firmly attached. The paper along the hinge between the front end paper and pastedown has split at the bottom half. The pages are lightly age-toned, and clean with no stains or writing found. Pages 182-185 each have a thin 1" horizontal tear at the top edge. Some pages are still attached along the outer edge. Overall the book is in Good+ condition.
