Paris: Editions Denoel, (1956)., (1956).. Fine. - Octavo, 9-1/4 inches high by 6-1/8 inches wide. Hardcover, bound in natural limp buckram titled in orange on the spine with vignettes on the front cover. 188 pages & [2] leaves plus numerous pages of delightful photographic illustrations depicting cats. Near fine.
First edition. Presentation copy with a 5-line inscription penned in blue ink by Mery on the half-title. Mery's inscription is cleverly signed by him within the body of a cat observing birds which he has sketched at the bottom of his inscription.
The French veterinarian Fernand Mery was a journalist and wildlife writer who was an advocate for animal rights. In that vein, he founded the association "Friends of animals" and later established the foundation "Assistance to animals".
