Dark blue decorated cloth; with gilt titles and decorations. 7.5 inches tall; 306 pages; illustrated with 21 plates by A. J. Keller. The bindings are tight and square. Text clean, light even toning. Moderate shelf handling wear with a slight shelf lean. The gilt is good with light loss on the main front title.. A manuscript penned by John Hurdiss of Stonington, Connecticut, and found in an old desk of a shipping office is the basis for this 'autobiographical' story.
James Barnes (1866-1936) was an American author. From 1918 until his death, he served as President of the Naval History Society, and on its Board of Managers.
