About This Item
N/P: N/P, 1928. First Edition, Thus . Cloth - Hard Cover. Very Good. 12mo. Although reported by Graff as being first published in 1928, there is indication that the author printed a few copies in 1920 after completing his writing. 178 pages. Top edge gilded. All first printing points (Graff 2720). Dark green cloth covers, with gilt lettering and ruled lines. Frontispiece between ii and iii. Includes excerpt from the St. Louis Globe-Democrat on pages 174-177. From the library of former Kansas governor and 1936 presidential candidate, Alf Landon, with his later book plate on blank front end page. Light rubbing on spine, partially affecting gilt lines at foot and head. Very light rubbing on cloth at spine ends and corners. Plate following page 174 is detached, though in place along with its tissue guard. Volume remains otherwise tight and very clean. Nice example of this rare first edition, containing material on an overland trip to California and eventual return by way of Panama, the California Gold Rush, and the Civil War.
