London: John Murray, 1849. First Edition. Hardcover. Vey Good. Two volumes, complete. First edition. "With the publisher's compliments" on title page. Full calf, handsome bindings with raised bands and spine-labels, marbled edges and endpapers, 588 + 584 pp. Light wear to spines, a chip out of one of the spine-labels, rubbing to tips and edges, slight soil to covers, still very good copies. Bookplates of William Caudery - a leading guano merchant in London involved in a case at the Old Bailey for salt petre sales in the 1860s. Digital images upon request.
