About This Item
London: Frederick Warne & Co., 1901. Cloth. Very Good. 8.5" by 6". Not Stated. A wonderfully illustrated edition of this celebrated work by Francis Hodgson Burnett, with a pictorial cover. Francis Hodgson Burnett (1849-1924) was a British novelist whose later works included 'A Little Princess' and 'The Secret Garden'. 'Little Lord Fauntleroy' was first published as a serial, and it set new fashion trends in the young due to its charming illustrations by Reginald B. Birch. It was an extremely popular work, and Burnett sued after her novel was plagiarised for a stage adaptation before writing her own adaptation, which saw equal success. The work has also been adapted a number of times for screen. This edition contains a profuse number of Birch's original illustrations.Contains six leaves of publisher's advertisements bound to the rear. In the publisher's original full cloth binding with a pictorial spine and cover. Externally very smart, some fading to the spine and bumping to the head and tail of the spine. Ownership inscription to the front endpaper. Internally firmly bound, pages bright and clean. Very Good
