About This Item
Englewood Cliffs NJ: Prentice-Hall, Inc.. Near Fine in Very Good+ dj. (c.1968). First Edition. Hardcover. [very light shelfwear only to book; jacket a bit sunned along spine and along left edge of front panel, a bit of wear along top edge]. (pen and ink drawings) INSCRIBED and SIGNED on the ffep: "To ________ / with [heart pierced by arrow] / (We're holding a guest room / open for you) / Lois & Art / Dec. 25, 1968." [It's difficult to tell for certain, but it would appear that the inscription was written by Lois, and that only "Art" was written by Linkletter himself.] Linkletter's story of how, in 1954, he and "some celebrity friends formed a syndicate and prepared to go prospecting in the land where winter was summer and the soldiers wore 'wide-brimmed hats turned up on one side.'" -- i.e., Australia. The venture was a bust, but when his Hollywood friends went back home, Linkletter stayed behind on "a potential sheep station on a huge tract of barren land east of Perth." Here he tells the story of his adventures and misadventures, and also provides "a revealing character sketch of Australia -- the land and its people." Signed by Author .
