London: Longmans, Green, and Co. , 1913. First edition. Leather. Very Good Indeed. 9" by 6". Not Stated. A smartly bound first edition of this biography of William Pitt, Earl of Chatham, with illustrations and maps. Complete in two volumes. First edition. Volume one is illustrated with a frontispiece, one portrait, and a folding colour map to the rear. Volume two is illustrated with a portrait frontispiece and three folding colour maps to the rear. Collated complete. The life of William Pitt, 1st Earl of Chatham, a British Whig statesman who served as Prime Minister of Great Britain from 1766 to 1768. Known as the Great Commoner, because of his long-standing refusal to accept a title until 1766. Written by Arthur Frederic Basil Williams, an English historian. Bound in half red calf with red cloth boards. Externally, smart with light shelf wear and minor rubbing to the extremities. Light fading to the spine and the odd small mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout. Folding map of France to the rear of volume two has small marks where colour has transferred to the opposite page. Very Good Indeed
