About This Item

London (193, Piccadilly): Chapman & Hall, 1864. 1st Edition 1st Impression. Hardcover. Very Good/New. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. The Author and Others. Complete in two volumes. Volume I: xiv, 376pp plus 32pp of publisher's catalogue bound in at rear, with folding chart giving Sterne's pedigree and illustation; Volume II: viii, 452pp, with double page illustration in place of frontispiece and one further illustration. Volumes are uniformly bound in deep green buckram with blind tool and gilt decorations and gilt lettering. Page edges untrimmed. 8vo. Both volumes are a little rubbed at edges and rounded on corners and spine ends; volume one has a small splattered white mark on the front boards, while volume two has a crack in the cloth at the spine base. Both volumes have matching small black ink marks on the front paste down, else the volumes a neat, clean and bright internally, both remaining firm and tight in their binding. Hard to find in the original edition. Handsome set. A large and heavy set which will likely require an additional charge for overseas delivery.
