A biography of Arthur Wellesley, First Duke of Wellington, who was an Anglo-Irish soldier and Tory statesman and acted as one of the leading military and political figures of 19th-century Britain, serving twice as prime minister. He is among the commanders who won and ended the Napoleonic Wars when the Seventh Coalition defeated Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. Written by George Gleig, a Scottish solider, military writer, and priest. Previous owner's bookplate to front pastedown: King's College London. In the original brown morocco binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing to the extremities. Previous owner's bookplate to front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with light scattered spotting to the first and last pages. Very Good Indeed
