Fraying to cloth at head of spine. Lacking the captioned tissue guard to the first photogravure plate facing page 62. The missing caption has been written in pencil in the blank lower margin of the plate. Binding shaken. ; Colonial edition. Text, maps and illustrations all the same as the first edition. Volume One only of two volumes. xix, [1], 414 pages + portrait frontispiece + 13 photogravure plates + 5 colour plates + 117 illustrations within the pagination (some full page; 2 in-text illustrations printed in red, "Private Seal of the Dalai Lama" on page vii and "Great Seal of the Dalai Lama" on blank page following page xix). 5 full page maps (3 within the pagination, 2 colour). Red cloth boards with gilt lettering on spine. Black lettering on front board. Black Tibetan lettering "Om Mani Padme Hum" and Buddhist symbols on front board. Page dimensions: 236 x 163mm. Perceval Landon accompanied the 1904 Younghusband expedition to Lhasa as a correspondent for the "Times". .
