Emmanuel Schelstrate was a 17th-century Catholic clergyman known for being the Vatican Library librarian. While working in the Vatican, he wrote a number of works discussing various aspects of the Catholic Church including decrees of the popes, as well as reports on the Council of Constance which discuss the ecclesiastical powers that were determined in the fourth and fifth sessions of the 15th-century ecumenical council.

A 19th-century Sino-Japanese woodblock printing of "Eighteen Histories Outlines" bound in the fukurotoji style. "Eighteen Histories Outlines" (Shiba shilue 十八史略) is a concise general history text created in the Yuan dynasty written by the Song Dynasty scholar Zeng Xianzhi, which achieved widespread popularity in the Ming dynasty. During the Meiji Restoration period, a demand for abbreviated histories arose in Japan leading to large-scale publications of 'Eighteen Histories Outlines' and creating "a profound impact on Japanese society, culture, and historiography, with a legacy extending into the contemporary period." This book was used as required material in primary schools and as a textbook for government officials in learning Chinese history.

Wrappers rubbed, dulled, and spotted, minor crease to the upper corner slightly affecting the contents. Very good condition. The rare catalogue of the Liverpool Museum of Anatomy, describing in detail the Museum's contents and policies, and illustrating its interior by an engraving on the lower cover. The Liverpool Museum of Anatomy was one of a number of such museums in the UK and US that specialised in wax anatomical models and, unlike many of the museums of professional medical organisations, were open to the public. Each volume has some wear/rubbing to the board edges, tips, spine, and hinges. Foxing to the pastedowns, endpapers, and flyleaves. Sporadic light foxing to the text. There is a one-and-a-half inch split at the head's front hinge. Board is still strong. This volume also has some mild staining to the front board. Bindings are tight and square.The History of the Rebellion by Edward Hyde, 1st Earl of Clarendon and former advisor to Charles I and Charles II, is his account of the War of the Three Kingdoms (British Civil Wars). Beautifully Illustrated with 36 fine full colour plates by Russell Flint. Publishers green cloth with elaborate blind tooled decoration to the front boards and spines, which are also ruled and lettered in gilt. In the original scarce dustwrappers with colour plates mounted onto the front panels. The cloth boards are a bit dulled and there is a near one-inch tear, without loss, to the top of the spine of volume one, but the gilt is still strong and bright. The dustwrappers are faded to the spines, which have a few very minor chips to the extremities, but are generally in very good condition and sets with them present are uncommon. After studying medicine under the teaching of Thomas Sydenham, John Locke began his journey of philosophical thinking that would develop into some of his most famous works. In 1693, Locke published a treatise on education entitled 'Thoughts Concerning Education'. Throughout the 18th-century it was the most important work on the philosophy of education in England. This work was an extension from 'Concerning Human Understanding' in which he describes how to educate the 'blank slate' mind described in 'Human Understanding'.
