London: Printed by J. Plymsell for T. N. Longman, 1797. Disbound. Good binding. Octavo. [2], 171, [1] pp. Lacking half title. Removed from nonce volume and at some point backed in paper. A solid copy; rubber stamped number on the title page as well as a manuscript subject demarcation in heavy pencil; light foxing throughout; penultimate leaf is a bit ragged at the fore-edge margin. Gifford was a "tory political writer . . . . By the age of twenty-three, with his fortune spent, he found it expedient to retire to France in 1781 or 1872, and to change his name to Gifford" (Oxford Dictionary of National Biography). He became a prolific writer and editor of magazines. ESTC T4778.
